German heavy goods specialist Gustav Seeland recently acquired its second Grove GMK5250XL-1 all-terrain crane to expand its fleet capabilities. Based in Hamburg, Germany, Gustav Seeland provides heavy haulage and specialised transport, crane operations, industrial installations, engineering, and heavy cargo storage.

The new crane was deployed right away to work in downtown Hamburg, where it lifted a 4.5-tonne (5-US-ton) ventilation unit on the roof of a 27-metre-tall (88.6-foot) building. The boom was set at 60 m (197 ft) with a radius of 31.5 m (103 ft).

"We were pleased with the performance of our first Grove GMK5250XL-1, so it made sense to add a second,” says Johann Evers, managing director of Gustav Seeland. “It’s an important part of the future direction of our company. Our Grove cranes have exceptional capabilities, which have enabled us to tackle more demanding jobs with greater efficiency. We look forward to continuing to push the boundaries with Grove.”

    Powerful Lift Capacity

The GMK5250XL-1 has a long eight-section boom and a high lifting capacity while maintaining a compact footprint and exceptional manoeuvrability. Its 78.5-m (257.5-ft) main boom has Twin-Lock boom pinning. The GMK5250XL-1’s lifting capacity approaches 272 tonnes (300 US t). The all-terrain crane’s carrier and superstructure are powered by a Mercedes OM471LA Euromot 5 engine.

The single-engine design has fuel-saving technology to reduce operating costs. The crane also has the Megatrak suspension system with all-wheel steering. The Maxbase variable outrigger positioning system is available as an option.
