Potain Cranes Deployed To Construct Major Residential Development In Pune, India
Over a dozen Potain cranes are assisting in the construction of 14 apartment blocks at Godrej Forest Grove in Pune, India. The prestigious complex in the state of Maharashtra is spread over approximately 15 acres with 14 22-storey towers built as seven separate structures housing 1,100 apartments. In total, 14 Potain tower cranes, a mix of MCi 85 and MCT 85 models, are in use or have been used on the project. In recent years the MCT 85 has become the tower crane of choice in India, used on project sites throughout the country. With a class-leading load capacity, jib length, and hoist speed, it was an easy choice for the apartment project.
In addition to the high-end apartments, the complex will include a 1,500-square-metre (16,145-square-foot) clubhouse, an open cafeteria, an amphitheater, an indoor functional workout zone, a basketball court, a multipurpose court, and a gym and two-tier play pool exclusively for children. The property will also have an orchard with approximately 100 fruit trees and a nature trail. The project is expected to be completed in April 2024.
About The MCT 85
The MCT 85 F2.5 topless tower crane replaces the previous MCi 85A-1C. It has a longer working radius of 52 metres (170 feet) and is capable of reaching a maximum free-standing hook height of 47.6 m (156 ft). All mechanisms for carrying out hoisting, slewing, and trolleying are available in optional variable-frequency drives. When fitted with the standard 25 PC 13 hoist, the MCT 85 has a maximum lifting speed of 71 metres (233 feet) per minute.
Topless cranes like the MCT 85 can use shorter jibs to work within the structure, rather than outside the perimeter, and can be used in overlapping operations. Topless cranes can also work in more confined spaces and are easier to erect than traditional hammerhead cranes and have the added benefit of being transported in fewer truckloads.
For the Godrej Forest Grove apartments, every crane was configured in the internal floor-climbing mode and ended the project with heights under hook between 70 and 80 metres with jib lengths of 25 to 30 metres. The internal climbing configuration, built around 1.2 sq m (12.9 sq ft) mast sections, allows the crane to fit inside narrow spaces such as elevator shafts and to operate with shorter jibs to maximise lifting capacity.
