SANY SCC8000A Crawler Crane Earns Its Way Into Indonesian Motorway Project

An SCC8000A lattice boom crawler crane from Chinese construction machinery manufacturer SANY recently placed the first girder over an arterial road in Bekasi, Indonesia, as part of a new national toll road project. The 20-kilometre (12.4-mile) motorway will link Bekasi, located 40 km (25 mi) from the capital Jakarta, to the cities of Cawang and Kampung Melayu. The Becakayu Toll Road is so named from a portmanteau of the three towns’ names.

SANY hoisting equipment proved its mettle over time, according to the manufacturer, convincing Indonesian officials to use the SCC8000A on the project that for years had been supported by cranes from German companies.

Working Under Pressure

The JL. A. Yali is a main trunk road in the city of Bekasi, so traffic had to be controlled during the installation of the large girder. The importance of the thoroughfare also limited the time frame of the job, so the SCC8000A had to operate accurately and efficiently. SANY placed a team of service engineers on 24-hour standby to be able to respond quickly should an emergency arise.

The SCC8000A crane has been the primary lifting machine at the 2A-Ujung part of the Becakayu Toll Road. It has been outfitted with a 12-metre (39-foot) superlift mast and counterweight, as well as a mixed boom. SANY says the unit has been operating smoothly and precisely on the jobsite.

Specifications

The modular SANY SCC8000A has an 800-tonne (882-U.S.-ton) maximum lift capacity, a boom of up to 111 m (364 ft) in length, and a fixed jib of 15 m (49 ft). A Cummins QSX15 engine provides it with 599 horsepower (447 kilowatts). The crane monitors its centre of gravity while lifting loads and traveling with its boom.

The manufacturer reports the crane’s max lifting moment as 12,016 tonne-metres (117,837 kilonewton-metres). Its longest main boom and fixed jib combination is 168 +12 m (551 + 39.4 ft), whilst its longest boom and luffing jib setup is 99 + 96 m (325 + 315 ft).
